The Power of Having Your Own Workspace

My name is ZHanny and I have a confession to make. Sometimes I use media to escape from real life. I know right? This is a big deal and I should receive treatment for it. There are some moments where I feel I could really go for  good movie and there are other moments where I feel that I could play a good video game. It’s what I think about when I am all cozy on my couch. I’m a sucker for a good story plot which unfortunately takes time away from accomplishing the work for the day. When I first started ZHanny Publishing it was me, my laptop, and the couch. Sometimes the work was on my bed, and sometimes it was on my kitchen table. Whatever was needed to get the job done. You know how start ups can be. As I progressed deeper and deeper into the business, I began to realize something about myself and my environment as I gazed out the window and saw a bluebird fly across the red and yellow afternoon sky. I get distracted easily. As my papers were laid out all over living room floor, I would look up at the television and imagine a funny scene from the movie or video game last night. When seated in the kitchen, I would stare at the calendar on my kitchen fridge and think about what supper should be. Seated on my bed, well I’d just get tired and unmotivated. All these distractions take precious time away from getting work done. Now that I’m thinking about it, this all totally makes sense. All those different environments and different thoughts/ feeling are programmed into us for those places. You are supposed to be hungry in the kitchen and you are supposed to be tired in the bed. So where does that leave running a business or getting projects done? Allow me to answer that question for you. In the designated place you set for it. My wife and I had a finished room we designated for storage and guests. The room was filled with boxes and had a twin bed stowed away in the corner. With a little maneuvering and a little cleaning, that room is now the official at home ZHanny Publishing Office space. You have no idea now much more work I get done now. I have goals that before I though would be impossible for one day’s work. Now, it’s like I have super powers to accomplish anything that I put my mind to. My advice to you? If you are looking to bring your efficiency to the next level take it from me, make a little space for your work. You do not have to always rent an office space. Heck, you don’t have to do what I did and designate a room for it. Put a folding table in a corner away from the other areas we discussed. Trust me, you will be surprised at what you can achieve.

How Long Does It Take to Grow a Successful Business?

Back when I was a child my little brother and I always made it a point, when the snow fell, to make a snow man. Not just any snowman, though. No no no. The biggest snowman in the entire city. You think I am joking? Quite the contrary my friend. People would deliberately drive from all over the city to come and see the snowman. This project would take us days to complete, and towards the end we would need a ladder to put the top on.  The hardest part of the whole project however was the bottom. There were many things that needed to be considered when creating the beginning stages of the first ball. It needed the right snow so it would not collapse on itself. It needed the right shape so one side would not be more lopsided when rolling. So on and so forth. You get the idea. Now, if done correctly, the effort of just rolling the ball in the snow would have exponential results. Each full rotation of the snowball would result in a larger surface area, building on itself each time. This process felt like it was taking forever at first, but we both knew that over time doing this would result in a giant ball too large for one person to push. Now all the other snowmen around had bottoms the same size. In order to have the biggest snowman in the city, we needed to do what all the other makers did not do. We had to think outside the box. What did we do? We gathered all the neighbor boys and rolled that ball even larger for the fame and glory of the ball! I often look back and think about how little things like that impacted the way that I am today. Just like the snowball analogy, the grown up world is the same way. Sometimes your life, business, projects, mortgage, and  investments (the list goes on and on) can start off small. Not only that, it can feel like it is taking forever to accomplish any progress.  And when you do start to see progress, it can seem like everything sometimes comes to a standstill. My advice to you? Keep on rolling friend, keep on rolling. And when things come to a standstill, think outside the box. Do what all the others did not do. Stand for something and problem solve. Be that 1%.

Can you think of any examples pertaining to exponential growth? What is your experience? Any thoughts? Let me know in the comments down below!

How ZHanny Comes Up With Great Creative Ideas

Lately I have been trying to get into more of a morning routine. I got up, made some coffee, and watched the thermometer rise as the sun  suddenly hit the side of my house. My mind is always racing. I need to go to the bank to make a deposit, I need to go to the post office to ship those four packages, the gutters are full of leaves right now and will not drain. Literally those just came to me on the spot. I go downstairs to my laundry room and start to rummage through my freshly washed clothes. I finally find my warm running gear and put it on. It is finally time for my morning cardio.  Now there are few things in the world that I have found that will slow my brain. Of the healthier options, my morning run is one of them. I walk outside, and ah! The sun hits the black clothes on my body, keeping me contently warm. All the trees in the neighbor’s front yards are of bright yellows, reds, and greens. I jog down the street, make a left on the main road, then turn right on the city running path. As my run begins to commence, I notice leaves falling and brushing me downward. The smell of fall is in the air. As the heart rate increases, and my skin begins to warm, the world begins to move in slow motion. All the troubles of day to day life begin to bother me less and less the more I run. Creative ideas start to flow like honey into my brain, humoring me at how ridiculous I can operate. I have come to realize that this is my creative process. I will occasionally start to walk and pull out my notepad and jot any and all ideas down. Some of my best ideas have come from this method of relaxation. When something is bothering me and I need to think it through thoroughly this is my go to. But enough about me, what about you? How do you relax and come up with great ideas? Let me know by commenting or following the links below.
